屯渓老街

Tunxi Old Street is the historic commercial spine of the urban core of Huangshan city, a single long pedestrian lane of grey-flagged stone paving lined with the white-walled, dark-tiled facades of restored Huizhou-style shopfronts that has become the primary tourist, shopping, and dining destination within the city itself. Most travelers arriving in the Huangshan region by train or long-distance bus pass through Tunxi and the old street as their first taste of the region's distinctive architectural and commercial culture.

The street is also the main place in the city center for a casual meal or a drink, with restaurants serving the broader Anhui culinary tradition alongside street snacks, pastries, and sweets tied to the Huangshan region, and many visitors time a walk here for the early evening after a day on the mountain or in the surrounding villages.

For a Huangshan itinerary, Tunxi Old Street functions as both the natural first stop for travelers getting oriented in the region and as the most convenient evening destination for visitors staying in the city. It requires no advance planning, fills a relaxed couple of hours of walking, shopping, and eating, and offers a manageable introduction to the regional craft, food, and architectural traditions before the more intensive sightseeing at the mountain and the ancient villages begins.
