烏村

Wucun is a historic village directly adjacent to the West Scenic Zone of Wuzhen, sitting along the bank of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal and offering a quieter, more rural counterpoint to the main Wuzhen scenic area. While the West and East Zones preserve Wuzhen's urban canal-town core, Wucun preserves the older village landscape that surrounded it, giving visitors a wider sense of how the water town sat within its broader rural setting.

The village's identity is shaped by the Grand Canal. Wucun sits on a stretch of the canal where historic harbor sites remain visible, including the remnants of old canal locks and two characteristic harbor bays, Wangjin Bay and Wucun Bay, that historically served as mooring and transshipment points along this busy section of the waterway. These remnants give the village a specific historical layer tied to the Grand Canal's role as the great north-south artery of imperial China, distinct from the more tourism-focused restoration of the main Wuzhen zones.

Within the village, the atmosphere is slower and more pastoral than in the West or East Zones. Old village houses, narrow lanes, vegetable gardens, and water channels combine into a landscape that feels closer to working rural Jiangnan than to a designed tourist zone, and the village is deliberately positioned as a quieter, more immersive option for visitors who want to experience the broader environment around Wuzhen rather than only the restored canal town itself. The village is also home to a small number of guesthouses and farm-to-table dining experiences aimed at visitors looking for a slower, more extended stay.

A visit typically takes a few hours, and Wucun is best treated as a complement to the main Wuzhen zones rather than a replacement for them. Because it sits directly beside the West Scenic Zone, it pairs naturally with a longer stay in the area, giving visitors who have already walked the West and East Zones a quieter third area to explore, and offering a different perspective on the same Jiangnan water landscape for those who want to dig deeper into the history of the canal and the rural life around it.
