正定古城について
Zhengding Ancient City, just fifteen kilometers north of downtown Shijiazhuang, is one of the most rewarding historical districts in North China and the natural anchor for a cultural day trip from the city. With a history stretching back more than sixteen centuries, it was once ranked alongside Beijing and Baoding as one of the "Three Mighty Strongholds of the North," and it is the hometown of the celebrated Three Kingdoms general Zhao Yun. Today it preserves an exceptional concentration of temples, pagodas, and old streets that make it a highlight of any Shijiazhuang itinerary.
The old city is famous for a poetic formula that locals quote: "three mountains you cannot see, nine bridges over no water, nine towers, four pagodas, eight great temples, and twenty-four memorial arches." The four pagodas, soaring above the rooftops at Lingxiao, Guanghui, Kaiyuan, and Linji temples, are the most visible landmarks, each from a different dynasty and each with a distinctive architectural form. The pagoda at Linji Temple is particularly revered in East Asian Buddhism as the funerary stupa of the founder of the Linji school, one of the most influential schools of Zen, and it remains a destination for Japanese and Korean Buddhist delegations.
The centerpiece of the old town is Longxing Temple, an imperial monastery whose vast bronze Guanyin and Song-dynasty halls would justify a visit on their own. Beyond the temple, the city wall still partially survives, and the restored southern gate carries a stone plaque recalling the city's old status as a mighty stronghold. Nearby, the Rongguo Mansion is a complete reconstruction of the residence described in Cao Xueqin's classic novel Dream of the Red Chamber, built as a film set for the landmark television adaptation.
Because the monuments are spread across the old town rather than clustered in a single compound, plan for a full day to do Zhengding justice. Walking, cycling, or using the local shuttles makes the circuit manageable, and mornings are quieter at the most popular temples. Spring and autumn are ideal for the open-air strolling and best for photography of the pagodas against a clear sky.
For travelers based in Shijiazhuang, Zhengding is the easy choice for a day out, and it pairs naturally with a trip to Zhaozhou Bridge further south. For anyone who has already seen Beijing's imperial core, this quieter, deeply historic town offers a more intimate and no less rewarding window into the architecture, religion, and literature of North China.

The old city of Zhengding lies fifteen kilometres north of Shijiazhuang, anciently called Changshan and Zhending, once ranked with Baoding and Beijing as the "Three Mighty Towns of the North," its south gate still bearing the stone plaque "Mighty Town of the Three Passes." It is the hometown of the Three-Kingdoms general Zhao Yun (Zhao Zilong), and is summed up in the saying of "three mountains unseen, nine bridges without water, nine towers, four pagodas, eight great temples, twenty-four fine arches." Within its walls gather such nationally protected monuments as Longxing Temple, the Huata pagoda of Guanghui Temple, the Chengling pagoda of Linji Temple, Kaiyuan Temple and the Lingxiao pagoda of Tianning Temple. Listed as a national historic-and-cultural city in 1994, it is a living museum of north Chinese architecture and Buddhist art.
