麗江古城について
Lijiang Old Town is the historic heart of Lijiang and one of the best-preserved ancient towns in China, a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognized for its remarkable layout and its role as the cultural home of the Naxi people. Built on the meeting point of trade routes that once linked Yunnan with Tibet, the town grew organically along a network of canals fed by melting snow from the surrounding mountains, giving it the nickname "Venice of the Orient" among visitors. Its cobbled streets, timber-framed houses, and stone bridges reflect centuries of Naxi architectural tradition blended with Han, Bai, and Tibetan influences.
Walking through Lijiang Old Town, visitors encounter narrow lanes lined with wooden shopfronts, tea houses, and workshops selling local crafts, silverware, and textiles. The sound of running water is constant, as channels branch off the main stream to run alongside nearly every street. Key landmarks within the old town include the main square, Sifang Street, historically a market hub where trading caravans once gathered, as well as scenic viewpoints where the tiled rooftops stretch toward the base of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain in the distance. In the evenings, the old town takes on a different character as lanterns are lit and bars and restaurants along the waterways fill with both travelers and locals.
For visitors, Lijiang Old Town rewards unhurried wandering rather than a fixed itinerary; getting pleasantly lost in its maze of alleys is part of the experience. Mornings tend to be quieter and better for photography before the crowds build later in the day. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended given the uneven stone paving, and it is worth allocating at least half a day, or even a full day, to explore at a relaxed pace, browse the shops, and sample Naxi and Yunnan cuisine.
As the anchor attraction of Lijiang, the old town is typically the starting point for any visit to the city and a natural base for exploring nearby sights such as Black Dragon Pool Park and the surrounding Naxi cultural sites. Its central location makes it easy to combine with day trips to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain or Lugu Lake, and many travelers choose to stay within or near the old town itself to soak in its atmosphere both day and night.

Lijiang Old Town, also called Dayan, was founded in the late Song and early Yuan and is among the best-preserved minority old towns in China, inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1997. Free of the gridiron plan of Chinese plain cities, it follows the waters flowing from Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and the slopes of Lion, Elephant and Jinhong mountains, its lanes running along the streams with water passing every doorway and willows at every gate; the Mu Residence, Sifang Square, the Great Waterwheel and Wangu Pavilion rise in layers, the political, economic and cultural heart of the Naxi and a great post on the Tea-Horse Road between Yunnan and Tibet. Baisha Xiyue, Naxi ancient music and Dongba culture still live within it, a town still breathing.
見学案内: At dusk, walking up from the Great Waterwheel past the three-eyed well, one treads cobbled lanes of coloured stone to the sound of water and Naxi ancient music drifting from the Mu Residence; from Wangu Pavilion atop Lion Mountain the old town spreads out in a sea of grey tiles, with the white of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain beyond, best capturing the singular calm and weight of "the old town beneath the snow mountain." The Naxi Ancient Music Hall and the Dongba paper workshop within the town are the places to touch its living heritage.
