À propos de Parc national de Pudacuo
Potatso National Park sits at the geographic center of the greater Shangri-La region in northwest Yunnan, within the Three Parallel Rivers of Yunnan Protected Areas, a UNESCO World Heritage site that protects one of the most biologically rich temperate landscapes on earth. Established in 2006 as one of mainland China's first national parks, Potatso was designed to model conservation-led tourism on the high Tibetan plateau.
The park is built around two alpine lakes, Bitahai and Shudu Lake, joined by miles of wooden boardwalks that cross subalpine forest, meadow, and bog. Bitahai sits at roughly 3,540 meters, surrounded by spruce and fir forest; in spring its surface reflects dense blooms of rhododendron that grow nowhere else at this scale. Shudu Lake, slightly lower and easier to reach, mirrors a belt of birch and conifer that turns gold in October. A belt of pasture known as the Militang subalpine meadow links the two lakes and is grazed each summer by yaks and horses belonging to nearby Tibetan villages.
Wildlife is a core draw. The park shelters red pandas, black-necked cranes, and several species of pheasant, together with elusive carnivores such as the Eurasian otter. Birders and photographers remain the most dedicated wildlife observers, and the boardwalk system makes it possible to scan each habitat from designated trails without disturbing the undergrowth.
Travelers should plan around altitude and season. Even in midsummer the lakes can be cold, and the high elevation demands a slower pace. Most of the park is best visited between late spring and autumn, with rhododendron bloom in May and June, wildflower meadows in July, and golden forest in October as the strongest seasonal highlights. A shuttle bus links the entrance, Shudu Lake, and the Militang meadow.
