About Dameisha Seaside Park
Dameisha Seaside Park is the most accessible public beach in Shenzhen, a 1.8-kilometre crescent of sand on the South China Sea coast in the Yantian district of eastern Shenzhen. Backed by green hills on three sides and open to the sea to the south, it is the most popular single seaside destination in the city and a default weekend escape during the warmer months.
The park has the feel of a large municipal beach rather than a resort: lifeguarded swimming zones, changing rooms, showers, food and drink stalls, rental sunbeds and umbrellas, and a wide concrete promenade running the length of the bay. The sand is coarse but clean, the water quality acceptable by Chinese urban-beach standards, and the surrounding hills provide a scenic backdrop that distinguishes Dameisha from a typical urban beach.
The subtropical climate makes the beach usable from late spring through to mid-autumn, with peak crowds during the summer-holiday months of July and August, public holidays, and weekends. On summer weekends the beach can be genuinely packed; weekday mornings are noticeably calmer. Foreign travellers seeking a quieter experience should consider visiting on a weekday or shifting to the smaller, more resort-oriented Xiaomeisha beach just along the coast.
The waterfront promenade extends into wider parkland behind the sand, with shaded walking and cycling paths, gardens, and children's play areas. A range of seafood restaurants and mid-range hotels line the inland side of the coastal road, and the Dameisha shopping and dining district sits within a few minutes' walk of the sand.
Dameisha is the easiest beach in Shenzhen to reach by public transport. For international travellers who want a half-day break from the city, Dameisha is the obvious choice.
