About Shenzhen Happy Valley
Happy Valley Shenzhen is the original park of the Happy Valley chain, the flagship domestic Chinese theme-park brand developed by the Overseas Chinese Town (OCT) group. Opened in 1998 in Shenzhen's OCT district, it remains one of the largest amusement parks in southern China and a popular weekend destination for families across the Pearl River Delta.
The park is divided into nine themed zones, each with its own architectural style and signature attractions. The zones include Spanish Square, Magic Castle, Mini World Adventure Hill, Western Mine Town, Shangri-La, Hurricane Bay, Sunshine Coast, Happy Times, and the Maya Water Park. The aesthetic ranges from European plaza to Wild West main street to Himalayan village, with the rides and shows in each zone loosely tied to the surrounding theme.
Across the nine zones the park offers more than a hundred rides and attractions, from junior-friendly carousels and boat cruises to full-size launch coasters, drop towers, rapids rides, and a signature mine-train coaster that threads through the Western Mine Town area. Live entertainment runs throughout the day, with acrobatic shows, character parades, and seasonal festivals. The Maya Water Park is open through the warmer months and provides a separate ticketed experience within the wider park.
In the evening, Happy Valley promotes the "Happy Light Years" zone, a 350,000-square-metre illuminated night-time park that combines light installations, night markets, performance stages, and dining into a single after-dark experience. The night park has been positioned as a flagship Shenzhen night-tourism product and is one of the more distinctive ways to experience the city after dark.
For international visitors travelling with children, Happy Valley Shenzhen is the obvious full-day family theme-park option within the city. The OCT location is well connected — Window of the World and Happy Valley sit within fifteen minutes of each other on the metro — making it easy to combine two of the OCT parks over consecutive days.
