Heizhugou lies in the Ebian Yi Autonomous County to the southwest of Mount Emei, occupying the transition zone between the Sichuan Basin and the highlands of western Sichuan. The scenic area blends forested mountain landscape with the distinct cultural character of the local Yi communities, making it a destination where nature and ethnography are difficult to separate.
