Oải hương Công chúa Giải Ưu

The Jieyou Princess Lavender Farm, set in the rolling farmland outside Yining, is one of several lavender sites that have made the Ili River Valley famous as a "hometown of lavender" within China. It is named after the Han-dynasty princess Jieyou, a historical figure dispatched in the second century BCE to marry into the Wusun royal house on the Central Asian steppe, a diplomatic arrangement that anchored early Chinese relations with the Ili basin.

The farm centers on broad fields of true lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) and lavandin that bloom from mid-June through July, when the rows of purple flowers, pollinator hedges, and windbreak poplars form one of the most photographed agricultural landscapes in northwest China. Raised walkways and a few simple archways and photo stations let visitors move through the rows without trampling the crop, while the scent of the bloom carries for some distance on warm afternoons.

Beyond the fields themselves, the site offers hands-on experiences tied to the aromatic-crop industry that developed around Yining in the second half of the twentieth century. Visitors can join short workshops to make lavender sachets, learn about steam distillation of essential oil, or watch demonstrations of how the flower is dried and blended into skincare products. Small exhibits explain the introduction of lavender to the valley in the 1960s and its role in reshaping local agriculture.

The farm's cultural framing is its distinguishing feature. By invoking Princess Jieyou, the site links the modern lavender industry to a much older story of cross-cultural contact along the Silk Road's northern route. For travelers using Yining as a base, a morning here pairs well with nearby Kazanqi, the Swan Spring Wetland, or a sunset walk along the Ili River.
