Sisters' Dumplings

Famous Snacks
What it is

Sisters' dumplings are steamed glutinous-rice rounds filled with sweetened paste or savoury meat, pearl-white and plump, soft and fragrant, a traditional speciality of Huogongdian.

Origin

The dumplings are said to have been created by two Jiang sisters who ran a stall outside Huogongdian; their skilled hands made the treats widely loved, and a local rhyme credits the Jiang family as their makers.

How it's eaten

Usually sold in pairs of one sweet and one savoury, they are eaten hot from the steamer, the chewy skin soft and the filling generous, taken as a breakfast or teatime treat.

Signature

Their paired sweet-and-savoury form, soft chewy texture and the legend of the Jiang sisters behind them make these dumplings distinctive.
