О Музей истории зарубежных связей
Quanzhou Maritime Museum, known in Chinese as the Overseas Communications History Museum, is one of the most internationally significant museums documenting China's medieval maritime trade. First established in the late 1950s and now housed in a purpose-built structure shaped like a sailing junk, the museum occupies a central place in any serious effort to understand Quanzhou's role as the greatest port of the Song and Yuan dynasties. For foreign travelers, it provides essential context for the city's UNESCO World Heritage listing and a focused introduction to the Maritime Silk Road.
The museum's centerpiece exhibits are the remains of Song and Yuan ocean-going junks recovered from the muddy shores around Quanzhou. The most celebrated is a Song-era wooden vessel, with its single massive hull and intact cargo of fragrant woods, spices, and medicinal materials traded across the South China Sea and Indian Ocean. The scale of these ships, their construction details, and the cargo inventories bring the medieval shipping industry to life in a way that few museum exhibits anywhere can match. Visitors can spend an hour examining the preserved hull, modeled rigging, and recovered artifacts before moving on to the museum's other halls.
Equally important are the collections of religious stone monuments left by foreign communities resident in medieval Quanzhou. Carved Islamic tombstones in Arabic script, Nestorian Christian monuments bearing crosses, Hindu deity reliefs, and Manichaean inscriptions demonstrate the extraordinary religious diversity of a port described by Song-era writers as a city where merchants of ten nations mingled in a single marketplace. These stones, many recovered during twentieth-century urban construction, are the primary physical evidence for Quanzhou's cosmopolitan character and form a core component of the city's UNESCO World Heritage dossier.
The museum's modern halls use models, maps, multimedia displays, and chronological narratives to trace Quanzhou's trajectory from a Tang-era coastal town to its medieval peak and later transformation. Exhibits also cover Minnan shipbuilding traditions, port infrastructure, and the networks of overseas Chinese who carried southern Fujian culture across Asia. Allow a half day for a thorough visit, especially for travelers who plan to explore other UNESCO sites in the region. The museum pairs naturally with Luoyang Bridge, Kaiyuan Temple, and the old city, where the historical themes developed inside the galleries can be read directly in the surrounding architecture.
Культурное наследие
The Quanzhou Maritime Museum is currently China's only museum devoted to the history of overseas transport, with galleries including the Quanzhou Bay Ancient Ship Hall, the Religious Stone Carvings Hall and the World of Chinese Boats Hall. Its collection of Song-dynasty ships, carvings of many faiths and export ceramics tells the Maritime Silk Road story, showing Quanzhou's prosperity as the foremost eastern port of the Song-Yuan era and the meeting of diverse religions and peoples here.
Посещение: Inside you can come close to an excavated Song sea-going ship and a wealth of religious stone carvings, follow the threads of boats and sea routes, picture the once-thronged port of Citong with a thousand sails, and grasp how shipbuilding wisdom such as watertight bulkheads drove the traffic between East and West.
