Founding

Baihuacun traces back to the state-run "Baihuacun United Canteen" opened in 1959 on Zhongshan Road in Urumqi, a flagship of the city's dining scene in the planned-economy era. After several rounds of restructuring it continues today as Xinjiang Baihuacun Fast Food Chain Co., Ltd., and is locally regarded as a time-honoured restaurant brand.

What made it famous

Baihuacun made its name by gathering flavours from across Xinjiang into quick everyday meals, and for generations of Urumqi residents it stands alongside the street markets as a homely taste of the city, an easy entry point for visitors meeting Xinjiang home cooking.

Signature craft

Its kitchen centres on everyday Xinjiang staples—pilaf, pulled noodles, kebabs and big-plate chicken—served fast yet true to flavour, reflecting Urumqi's everyday blend of many peoples' cuisines.

Cultural standing

Baihuacun was named among the first batch of time-honoured restaurants recognised by the Urumqi Municipal Bureau of Commerce in 2014.
