시닝시 동관청진대사 소개

The Dongguan Giant Mosque, in the heart of Xining's old eastern district, is the largest mosque in Qinghai province and one of the four great mosques of northwest China. For more than six centuries it has served as the religious and community center of the city's large Hui (Chinese Muslim) population, and it remains one of the most important Islamic institutions in the region today. Its location — on a busy commercial street only a few minutes' walk from the city center — makes it one of the easiest major religious sites in Xining to visit.

The architecture reflects the cultural synthesis that defines Hui Islam in China. Rather than the domes and minarets of Middle Eastern mosques, Dongguan is built in a Chinese idiom: a walled courtyard complex with tile-roofed halls, wooden pavilions, upturned eaves, and a central worship hall whose layout recalls a Chinese temple. Arabic calligraphy is integrated into the decoration, and the prayer hall itself — oriented toward Mecca — combines Chinese structural techniques with Islamic functional requirements. The result is one of the best examples of "Sino-Islamic" architecture in the country.

The mosque's role in daily life is visible. Five times a day, the call to prayer sounds from the minaret over the surrounding streets; on Fridays the congregation overflows into the courtyard for jumu'ah prayers; and during Ramadan and the Eid festivals the entire neighborhood is transformed by fasting, feasting, and celebration. The surrounding Dongguan Street area — particularly the food stalls and restaurants that come alive in the evening — is one of the best places in Xining to sample Hui and Northwestern Chinese Muslim cuisine: hand-pulled lamian noodles, lamb skewers, flatbreads, and the famous Xining yogurt.

For non-Muslim foreign visitors, the mosque is generally open outside of prayer times. Dress modestly (long trousers, covered shoulders), remove shoes before entering carpeted areas, and be respectful of worshippers — avoid photographing people in prayer and keep voices low. Female visitors should cover their hair out of courtesy.

For independent travelers, Dongguan Mosque is one of the most rewarding short stops in Xining. It offers a window onto the multiethnic fabric of northwest China, the architectural sophistication of Chinese Islam, and the deep history of the Silk Road communities that shaped the region.
