시닝 야생동물원 소개

Xining Wildlife Park — also known as the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Wildlife Park — is a 4A-rated zoological park in the western suburbs of Xining, and one of the few places in the world where travelers can reliably see the high-altitude fauna of the Qinghai-Tibet plateau. Set across a forested zone of South Mountain at an elevation of about 2,295 meters, the park positions itself as both a visitor attraction and a research, conservation, and breeding center for plateau species.

The signature animals here are the carnivores and large mammals of the high plateau. Snow leopards — arguably the most iconic of all Himalayan predators — are the headline attraction, and the park has been a leader in their captive breeding in China. Other plateau species on display include the Pallas's cat (manul), black-necked crane, Himalayan vulture, Tibetan wild ass, and white-lipped deer, alongside the herbivores and small mammals of the alpine grassland. For travelers who will not have time to trek into the remote Sanjiangyuan reserve or onto the plateau itself, this is the best single opportunity to see these species up close.

The park also displays a selection of non-plateau animals typical of Chinese zoos — hippos, zebras, primates — but the focus is firmly on regional fauna. Layout follows the modern "scattered-range" approach: large naturalistic enclosures, walking paths through forest, and viewing platforms rather than cramped concrete cages. Themed zones include the carnivore area, the grassland-herbivore area, the "hundred birds" aviary, the snow leopard hall, and the primate hall.

For families with children, the park is one of Xining's most popular outings, and the elevation, fresh air, and forest setting make it comfortable even in midsummer. Plan on roughly half a day to walk the main sections.

For independent travelers, the wildlife park is particularly rewarding for those with an interest in high-altitude ecology or wildlife photography. The snow leopard, black-necked crane, and Pallas's cat are genuine "life-list" species for many serious wildlife watchers, and the opportunity to photograph them in good light at close range is rare. International visitors should be aware that animal welfare standards in Chinese zoos have historically been lower than in Europe or North America, but Xining Wildlife Park is among the better-regarded institutions in the country.
