선양 방성 문화관광구 소개
The Shenyang Fangcheng Cultural Tourism Zone is the historic heart of Shenyang, a 1.69-square-kilometre grid enclosed by the four Shuncheng streets that follow the line of the old Manchu city wall. Roughly square in plan — fangcheng literally means "square wall" — this district holds the densest concentration of historical architecture in northeast China and forms the natural starting point for any visit to the city.
Inside its boundaries stand the Shenyang Imperial Palace and Marshal Zhang's Mansion, along with seven provincially protected sites, nine city-protected sites, and forty-two registered historic buildings. They include the ruins of the Manchu Khan's Palace, the Old Viceroy's Office of the Three Northeast Provinces, and surviving corner towers of the original Qing-era city wall.
Beyond its monuments, the zone is also a living district of traditional Shenyang commerce. Eleven time-honoured shops, including the Ma Family Shaomai and Old Bian Dumpling restaurants, continue to serve dishes whose recipes are recognised as intangible cultural heritage of Liaoning Province. Sixteen further city-level intangible-heritage crafts — Manchu pearl-ball sport, metal relief work, Liao cuisine technique, and others — are documented across the zone.
The most famous street here is Middle Street (Zhong Jie), honoured as "the Number One Street of the Northeast" and designated a national-model pedestrian street. Lined with department stores, snack stalls, and restored Republican-era façades, it is the busiest shopping and dining corridor in Shenyang.
Walk the Fangcheng at the start of a trip to Shenyang: the concentration of Qing-era palaces, early-modern residences, food heritage, and contemporary street life makes it the single richest introduction to the city, and an easy half-day loop on foot.
