베이링 공원

Beiling Park — literally "Northern Tomb Park" — is one of Shenyang's most beloved public green spaces and the home of the Qing Zhao Mausoleum, the tomb of Hong Taiji, the second founding emperor of the Qing dynasty, and his Empress Xiaoduanwen. The park sits in the Huanggu District of northern Shenyang and combines a UNESCO-listed imperial mausoleum with one of the city's most popular recreational landscapes.

The mausoleum at the park's centre is the largest and most architecturally complete of the "Three Mausoleums Outside the Pass" — the three early-Qing imperial tombs that lie in Manchuria, the founding heartland of the dynasty. Construction began in 1643 and was largely completed by 1651, and the complex follows the classical Chinese "front court, rear chamber" layout, with a processional spirit way leading north through a sequence of ceremonial gates, stone animal figures, stele pavilions, and the great Square City that encloses the underlying burial mound.

In 2004 UNESCO inscribed the Zhao Mausoleum, together with the Shenyang Imperial Palace and the Fu Mausoleum, as an extension of the Imperial Tombs of the Ming and Qing Dynasties World Heritage Site. The listing recognised the distinctive fusion of Ming-Chinese planning and Manchu architectural features visible across the complex, especially in the yellow-tiled Long'en Hall and the carved granite stairways of the inner court.

The park that surrounds the mausoleum is itself a destination. Mature forests, an ornamental lake with boat rentals, cherry and lilac collections, a children's amusement area, and gardens dedicated to azaleas, peonies, and other seasonal flowers make it the most popular outdoor leisure space in northern Shenyang. In winter the frozen lake and snow-covered pines turn the park into a classic northern-Chinese winter scene.

For international visitors, Beiling Park is best treated as a half-day experience, pairing the UNESCO mausoleum circuit with a relaxed walk through one of Shenyang's most pleasant landscapes.
