천파양부

Tianbo Yang Manor is a reconstructed Song-dynasty architectural complex in Kaifeng dedicated to the memory of the Yang family, one of the most celebrated military lineages in Chinese history. The manor commemorates General Yang Ye and his descendants, whose defence of the Northern Song against the Khitan Liao dynasty was recorded in official histories and then magnified, over the centuries, into one of the most famous martial legends in Chinese culture. For domestic visitors, the site is a familiar name; for foreign travellers, it is a useful window into how Chinese historical memory mixes fact and romance.

According to the traditional account, the manor stood inside the Song capital near Tianbo Gate, on the banks of the Jinshui River. Because the Yang family served the dynasty loyally across several generations, Emperor Taizong is said to have commanded its construction at imperial expense and to have decreed that every official passing the gate on the road below, civil or military, dismount as a mark of respect. The legend, preserved in opera, vernacular fiction, and modern television, is one of the foundational stories of loyal service in Chinese political culture, and the name "Yang Family Generals" remains instantly recognisable across the Chinese-speaking world.

The manor visitors see today is a modern rebuilding, raised in recent decades as a memorial to Yang Ye rather than as a surviving Song structure. The compound follows the plan of a high-ranking Song residence, with courtyards, ceremonial halls, side chambers, and exhibition rooms displaying material related to the historical campaigns on the northern frontier and the later literary tradition built around the family. Painted and sculpted scenes from the best-known stories are arranged throughout, giving the site something of the character of a walk-through narrative.

Tianbo Yang Manor is located close to Longting and the lakes, and it is most often visited as part of a walking circuit through Kaifeng's central historic zone. Allow roughly an hour. The site is quieter than the major theme parks, which makes it a good place to slow down and absorb the cultural background that informs so much of what you will see elsewhere in the city.
