샹궁산

Xianggong Mountain is one of the most celebrated photographers' vantage points in the Guilin and Yangshuo region, a karst peak on the western bank of the Li River between the Yellow Cloth Shoal reflection viewpoint and the Nine Horses Painting Cliff. Although it is far less famous than the headline sights of the region, among landscape photographers it has acquired a reputation as one of the finest single overlooks on the Li River, and images captured from its summit have received recognition in international photography competitions, which has steadily broadened its profile among visitors.

From the summit platform, the river makes a broad U-shaped bend immediately below, curving around a flat-topped karst bluff and winding off in both directions through a dense field of limestone peaks. The view takes in one of the most photographed sections of the entire Li River — the same stretch that includes the celebrated reflection depicted on the twenty-yuan banknote — but from an elevated angle that the river-level viewpoints cannot offer. The peak is particularly renowned for its sunrise and sea-of-cloud conditions, when morning mist fills the river valley and the surrounding summits emerge like islands from a white lake, producing the kind of layered, ink-painting atmosphere that has made the Guilin landscape famous.

For foreign visitors with a serious interest in photography, Xianggong Mountain is one of the essential sunrise locations in the region, and it rewards a pre-dawn arrival organized from nearby Yangshuo or Xingping. For general travelers, the same view at mid-morning or afternoon is still a striking panorama, though without the atmospheric effects that the early hours provide. The climb from the parking area to the summit is short but steep, taking roughly twenty minutes on stone steps, and a visit fills an hour or two including time at the top. The site is easiest to reach by car or organized tour, and because its appeal depends heavily on weather and time of day, visitors should check conditions and plan flexibly — a clear, windless morning after a cool night offers the best chance of the famous mist and reflection conditions that make the peak a photographers' destination.
