It does not address the regional cultural or historical themes that dominate a typical Urumqi itinerary, and its principal value is as a family-friendly option, particularly for visitors traveling with children who may need a break from the long drives and intensive museum visits that make up most of a regional circuit. The museum is compact and can be toured in an hour or so.

The museum is open year-round, although the schedule of interactive sessions is reduced outside the school holiday periods. Signage is in Chinese with limited English captions, so visitors without reading knowledge of Chinese will get more out of the visit with a translation app. The museum is reached by taxi or rideshare from central Urumqi and pairs well with other low-intensity stops in the same district for a half-day excursion focused on family leisure rather than heritage.
