Lijingmen Scenic Area marks the historic western gate of old Luoyang, a site local sayings suggest no visit to the city is complete without seeing. First built in the Sui dynasty, the gate has long symbolized the entrance to the ancient city and carries the reputation of being one of the most storied city gates in Luoyang's long history.

The scenic area as it stands today is a reconstruction built on the site of the original structure, and it now includes a multi-story gate tower, an enclosed barbican courtyard, an archery tower, sections of city wall, a bridge, and a moat, together recreating the feel of a traditional Chinese city gate complex. Visitors can climb the tower for views over the surrounding old streets, explore the fortified structures, and take in the layout of what was once the primary defensive entrance to the city. The area also serves as the gateway to Luoyang's old commercial street, making it a natural transition point between historic sightseeing and local street life.

A visit typically combines the gate structures themselves with a stroll through the adjoining old street, where visitors can sample local snacks and browse shops selling regional specialties.
