Parque del puerto militar

The Military Port Park (Jungang Youyuan) is a small waterfront viewing area in Lüshun (Port Arthur) on the southern tip of the Dalian peninsula, at the foot of Baiyu Mountain and along the northern shore of the Lüshun naval harbor. Although modest in size, it is one of the most symbolically resonant spots in the region: it sits directly opposite the main channel of one of China's most important naval bases, and for more than a century the harbor has been at the center of the military history of northeast Asia.

The park's main draw is the view across the narrow mouth of the Lüshun harbor. The channel — flanked by hills on both sides — is one of the most naturally defensible harbors on the Chinese coast, which is exactly why it became the focal point of the First Sino-Japanese War, the Russo-Japanese War, and decades of Soviet and Chinese naval activity. Visitors to the park can see warships at anchor, the hillside fortifications, and the expanse of the inner harbor, though the naval base itself is strictly off-limits.

The park includes a memorial tablet, a small landscaped area, and viewing terraces. Vendors around the entrance sell snacks, souvenirs, and postcards of the harbor and the warships. The atmosphere is a mixture of historical reflection and everyday tourism, with locals and out-of-town visitors gathering to photograph the channel, watch the sea, or wait for a naval vessel to pass.

For travelers, the Military Port Park is a brief but essential stop on a Lüshun-area itinerary. It pairs naturally with Baiyu Mountain, the Lüshun Museum, the Submarine Museum, and the other historical sites that together tell the story of this heavily contested port. Allow thirty minutes to an hour for the park itself, and plan a full day for the wider Lüshun loop. Photography of the harbor is permitted from the park, but visitors should respect the obvious military exclusion zones and any signage restricting cameras.
