Yanjing Bajue (Eight Wonders) Museum

The Yanjing Bajue Museum in Beijing is devoted to the "Eight Wonders of Yanjing" — the eight supreme court crafts of old Beijing, traditionally cloisonné, filigree inlay, gold-lacquer inlay, carved lacquer, jade carving, ivory carving, palace embroidery and palace carpets. Born largely of imperial workshops and drawing together crafts from across China, they represent the height of Beijing court artistry, gathered here under one roof to show their shared "Beijing-made" character.

Visiting: The museum lets you view representative works of all eight court crafts together, comparing their materials, techniques and styles — a concentrated look at the intricate, opulent and self-contained art of old Beijing's imperial workshops.
