Giới thiệu về Vườn thực vật nhiệt đới Tây Song Bản Nạp, Viện Khoa học Trung Quốc

The Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, operated by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, is the only attraction in Xishuangbanna rated 5A by China's national tourism authority, and for most visitors it is the single finest stop in the prefecture. Founded as a research station on a bend of the Luosuo River in the late 1950s, the garden now shelters more than thirteen thousand living plant species gathered from across tropical and subtropical Asia, making it one of the most biodiverse botanical gardens in China. It sits inside a protected stretch of tropical rainforest in Menglun, in Mengla County, and is still affectionately called "Menglun Garden" by local Dai people.

The site is split into two clearly different zones. The West Zone is the main crowd-pleaser: a series of themed sub-gardens showing palms, bamboos, orchids, aquatic plants, medicinal herbs, succulents, and rare tropical fruits, all laid out along walkable looping paths. Plantings here change visibly with the seasons, so even repeat visitors find something new in bloom, and interpretive signage has gradually been upgraded. The East Zone is a long, narrow tongue of primary tropical rainforest left largely in its natural state, with a network of hiking trails that let you walk under towering dipterocarps, strangler figs, and hanging lianas, the closest most travelers will come to true rainforest inside China.

Distances between the zones are large, so battery carts shuttle visitors between gates; budget enough time if you want to cover both on foot. Bring sun protection and drinking water for the West Zone, and proper walking shoes and insect repellent for the East.

For independent travelers building a Xishuangbanna itinerary, this botanical garden is the easiest place to grasp why the prefecture is considered China's richest pocket of tropical biodiversity. Plant enthusiasts, photographers, birders, and slow walkers can each happily spend half a day or more here, and the gardens are well suited to families as well.
