Giới thiệu về Hẻm núi Sông Mã Lĩnh
Malinghe Gorge — known to locals as "the Beautiful Scar on the Earth" — is a 4A-rated canyon a short drive from the center of Xingyi in southwestern Guizhou. The Maling River, which rises in the Wumeng Mountains to the west, has spent millions of years slicing a narrow, deeply incised trench through the karst plateau, producing a slot canyon whose near-vertical walls drop tens of meters to a jade-green river below. The "scar" nickname captures both the dramatic geology and the unexpected intimacy of the gorge.
The cross-section is what makes Malinghe unusual. Unlike classic wide valleys, this is a deeply incised gorge — very narrow at the top, often only a few dozen meters wide, with overhanging cliffs streaked by countless seasonal waterfalls. After rain, dozens of cascades plunge from the rim in parallel silver threads; in drier weather the cliffs still run with seepage that feeds curtains of moss, ferns, and hanging vegetation. Travertine formations, flowstone curtains, and deep undercut alcoves make the walls feel almost cave-like in places, and the river itself runs clear and cold between stacked boulders.
A well-built boardwalk and viewing-terrace system follows the gorge on both sides, connected by suspension bridges, so visitors can do a loop walk that crosses above the river several times. The path drops gently through layered viewpoints — some tucked behind waterfalls, others perched on steel catwalks bolted to the cliff — and the lighting inside the canyon changes dramatically through the day as sunlight reaches the floor only at midday. Allow roughly half a day to walk the main section at a relaxed pace.
Maling River is also famous in China for its whitewater: a commercial rafting stretch runs through the lower gorge, passing dozens of small rapids, deep pools, and cliff-side panels of "mural" rock patterned by mineral staining. Rafting is the most popular way for domestic travelers to experience the canyon from inside, but it is seasonal and operational details change year to year, so it is worth checking locally rather than planning around fixed schedules.
For independent foreign visitors, Malinghe Gorge is the natural pairing with Wanfenglin: one is horizontal karst (peaks), the other vertical karst (canyon). Together they give a complete picture of what water and limestone can do on the Yunnan-Guizhou plateau.
