Lầu Trống Tây An

Facing the Bell Tower across a short plaza in the heart of the old city, the Xi'an Drum Tower is one of the two great timekeeping monuments that have anchored daily life in Xi'an since the Ming dynasty. Evening visits are particularly rewarding, as the tower is illuminated after dark and the surrounding streets fill with both local residents and visitors moving between dinner, shopping, and sightseeing, giving the area a distinctly festive atmosphere.

A visit to the Drum Tower interior itself takes well under an hour, making it easy to fold into a longer walk that also covers the Bell Tower and the Muslim Quarter's snack streets.
