Wuzhizhou Island is a 1.48-square-kilometer island in Haitang Bay, a short ferry ride from the Sanya coast, and one of the most popular island destinations in southern Hainan. As a national 5A-rated scenic area, it has been built up into a comprehensive island resort that combines sightseeing, water sports, and honeymoon tourism, with infrastructure designed to handle very large numbers of visitors. For most travelers to Sanya, it is the default island day trip and the place to go for the most developed water-sports experience on the coast.

The island sits in clear, sheltered water, with coral reefs and marine life that make it one of the better spots near Sanya for underwater activities. The water-sports program is the most distinctive feature, marketed as a "four-in-one" menu that spans snorkeling and scuba diving on one hand and motorized water sports such as jet skis, banana boats, and parasailing on the other. The breadth of options is unusual, and it means that a single day on the island can include everything from a guided reef dive to an afternoon of high-thrill towed rides.

Beyond the water sports, Wuzhizhou is a genuinely scenic island in its own right. The coastline combines rocky headlands, sandy coves, and tropical vegetation, with a paved perimeter road and a network of walking trails leading to viewpoints across the reef and back toward the mainland. The interior has been landscaped with tropical gardens, shaded walkways, and small pavilions, and the eastern side of the island in particular offers dramatic views of open sea breaking against the rocks. For visitors who prefer not to get into the water, the walking and sightseeing alone make for a rewarding day.

Because of its popularity, Wuzhizhou can get extremely busy, particularly during the Chinese New Year holiday, the summer school break, and the October national holiday. The ferry queue can build quickly on peak days, and arriving early is the most reliable way to beat the crowds and get a calm first hour on the island. Honeymoon couples and families are the dominant visitor groups, and the island's marketing leans heavily into those audiences, with themed photo spots and romantic landscaping scattered around the grounds.

Ferry access to Wuzhizhou leaves from the pier at Houhai Village, at the southern end of Haitang Bay, roughly half an hour from downtown Sanya by taxi or ride-hailing service. Most visitors treat it as a full-day excursion, arriving mid-morning and returning in the late afternoon. For travelers who want a structured, high-activity day on the water without the logistical overhead of organizing individual dive or charter trips, Wuzhizhou remains the most complete island destination in the Sanya area.
