Đại Đông Hải

Dadonghai is one of Sanya's principal bays, sitting just east of the city center and forming the most accessible of the resort beaches from downtown. Smaller and more built-up than Yalong Bay further to the east, it has long been a favorite of travelers who want a beach holiday without the longer transfer times or the higher price points of Sanya's more exclusive resort strips. For first-time visitors who want a convenient tropical beach within easy reach of restaurants, shops, and nightlife, Dadonghai is one of the most practical bases on the coast.

The bay curves between two headlands, with a wide sweep of sand backed by a dense line of hotels, restaurants, bars, and small shops. The water is warm through the year, typical of Sanya's tropical climate, and the swimming is generally easy within the sheltered curve of the bay, though conditions vary with the season. While the sand and water quality do not quite match the more pristine stretches of Yalong Bay, the trade-off is convenience: everything a visitor needs for a day at the beach, from sun loungers to cold drinks to fresh seafood, is within a few steps of the sand.

The atmosphere at Dadonghai is more urban and more international than at Sanya's other bays, with a mix of domestic tourists and foreign travelers giving the strip a busier, more cosmopolitan feel, particularly in the evenings when the bars and restaurants along the beachfront come alive. Russian and English signage is common, a reflection of the strong seasonal influx of visitors from colder northern climates who come to Sanya for winter sun. The bay is also a useful hub for booking boat trips, dive excursions, and day tours to other parts of the coast.

Because it sits so close to downtown Sanya, Dadonghai is the easiest of the major bays to reach from the airport, the railway station, and the city's urban attractions. Taxis, ride-hailing services, and public buses all connect the bay to the wider city, and many visitors stay here for the entirety of their trip rather than moving between bays. For travelers who prioritize walking access to food, nightlife, and services over seclusion, Dadonghai remains a sensible and popular choice, and a good counterweight to the more isolated resort strips to the east.
