Làng cổ An Nghĩa

Anyi Ancient Village is a cluster of three historic farming and trading villages — Luotian, Shuinan, and Jingtai — set against the foothills of the Meiling range roughly sixty kilometers west of central Nanchang. Rather than a single preserved settlement, the site is a linked group of neighboring villages that together formed a prosperous minor hub along the old Gan-merchant trade routes, and a single admission covers all three, connected by walking paths and short stretches of restored stone-paved road. The villages are still inhabited, which gives them a lived-in quality that purely preserved museum-villages often lack.

The architectural highlight is the density of well-preserved Ming- and Qing-dynasty merchant houses, ancestral halls, and small temples spread across the three settlements. Luotian village concentrates many of the most elaborate compounds, including a grand courtyard residence noted for its dozens of internal skylight wells and the great old camphor tree that serves as the village's living landmark. Shuinan is known in particular for its carved woodwork, and Jingtai, the quietest of the three, holds a stone memorial archway, an old opera stage, and a former scholar's residence. Walking the full circuit through all three villages typically takes several hours at a relaxed pace, and a small electric shuttle connects the main entrance with Luotian for visitors who want to shorten the walk.

Spring is the most visually striking season to visit, when the surrounding fields turn bright yellow with rapeseed blossom, and many Nanchang residents treat Anyi as a weekend day trip combining the old architecture with the countryside scenery. For foreign travelers, the villages offer one of the more accessible examples of traditional Jiangxi rural architecture within a half-day's reach of Nanchang, and they reward visitors who enjoy walking, photography, and slow exploration rather than tightly programmed sightseeing. Simple farm-family restaurants in the villages serve local country cooking, and it is worth allowing a full day if traveling independently, since the drive each way from the city takes a meaningful chunk of time.
