Giới thiệu về Đường cổ Rồng Cuộn
The Panlong Ancient Road is one of the most dramatic mountain roads in the Pamir region, climbing through a series of tight switchbacks in the Wocha area of Tashkurgan County. Built to connect the high-altitude valleys of the eastern Pamir, the road has become well known in recent years among travellers along the Kashgar-to-Tashkurgan route for the visual drama of its descent from the high plateau. For visitors with an interest in mountain engineering, it is one of the most striking road-building achievements in the region.
The defining feature of the road is the dense sequence of switchbacks on the steeper sections of the route. The road's S-shaped bends, numbering in the hundreds, were laid out to manage the substantial elevation change between the valley floor and the high plateau, and the resulting sequence, when seen from above, has the appearance of a single coiling line stitched onto the mountain. The view from the higher sections, looking back down the road as it loops across the slope, has become one of the iconic images of contemporary Pamir travel.
The road traverses some of the most rewarding landscapes of the eastern Pamir. The route passes several of the best-known natural features of the region, including the white sands of Baisha Lake, the deep blue of Karakul Lake, and the ice-clad summit of Muztagh Ata. Beyond these highlights, the road climbs through gorges, across alpine meadows, and past smaller herders' camps and grazing meadows, giving travellers a compressed tour of the high-altitude landscapes of the Pamir.
For international visitors, the Panlong Ancient Road is best experienced as part of a multi-day itinerary along the Karakoram Highway and its side roads. A four-wheel-drive vehicle and an experienced driver are strongly recommended, and conditions should be checked in advance, since the road can be affected by snow and landslides, particularly in the shoulder seasons. Allow a full day for the drive, with stops for photography and short walks. The altitude is significant and requires acclimatisation, but the visual rewards of the journey are considerable, and the road is one of the most distinctive experiences available to travellers in the Kashgar region.
