Giới thiệu về Vườn Hương Phi

The Fragrant Concubine Garden (Xiangfei Yuan) is a memorial complex on the eastern outskirts of Kashgar, centred on the tomb traditionally associated with the historical figure known in Chinese as Xiangfei and in Uyghur tradition as Iparhan. The complex is one of the best-known Islamic-period architectural sites in the Kashgar region and has been developed in recent years into a major cultural attraction. For visitors interested in the architecture and history of the Silk Road oases, it is one of the essential stops in the city.

The site's historical associations are layered and partly legendary. The traditional account holds that Iparfei, a woman from the Kashgar region renowned for her natural fragrance, was brought to the imperial court in Beijing during the Qing dynasty and entered the imperial harem. The story has been retold in many forms, with significant variation between the Chinese literary tradition and the local Uyghur oral tradition, and the relationship between the literary figure and the historical person remains debated by scholars. The garden complex in Kashgar serves as a focal point for both traditions.

The architectural core of the site is a traditional Islamic mausoleum, with the domed central chamber and tiled façades characteristic of the region's sacred architecture. Recent development has expanded the complex to roughly four times its earlier footprint, with new structures, gardens, and exhibition spaces that present the site as a broader cultural destination. The renovation deliberately blends traditional building forms with contemporary interpretive elements, with exhibits organised around three themes: homeland, residence, and the people connected to the story.

For international visitors, the Fragrant Concubine Garden is best appreciated as both an architectural site and a cultural narrative experience. The original mausoleum and its tilework deserve close attention, while the newer exhibition spaces help contextualise the local culture of the Kashgar oasis within the broader historical networks of the Silk Road. Allow around two hours for a relaxed visit. The site is easily accessible from central Kashgar and is best visited in the morning or late afternoon, when the light on the domes and tiled walls is at its best and the heat of the day is less intense.
