The Amanisha Khan Mausoleum is a memorial complex in Yarkand County, east of Kashgar, dedicated to one of the most important cultural figures of the Yarkand Khanate period. Amanisha Khan was a sixteenth-century figure credited with compiling and codifying the Twelve Muqam, the great classical suite tradition of Uyghur music, which remains one of the most significant musical traditions of Central Asia and is recognised as part of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity. The mausoleum is part of the broader Yarkand Khanate royal tomb complex, sometimes known as the Altun Mazar.

The larger royal tomb complex, with a total area of roughly one thousand square metres, was begun in 1533 and expanded over more than a century into its present form. It holds the remains of the founder of the Yarkand Khanate and eleven generations of royal family members. The architecture follows the traditions of Islamic funerary building in the region, with domed central chambers, decorated tilework, and an ordered sequence of grave markers within the complex. The decoration and layout have been studied for what they reveal about the design, craftsmanship, and court culture of the period.

The Amanisha Khan Mausoleum itself is a more recent addition, a memorial structure honouring the figure whose association with the Twelve Muqam has made her an iconic cultural figure. The connection between the mausoleum and the musical tradition gives the site a particular resonance: visitors interested in the classical music of the region, and in the historical processes by which an oral musical tradition was codified into a written court repertoire, will find the site a meaningful point of reference.

For international visitors, the mausoleum is best treated as part of a broader circuit through the Yarkand old town, which includes a substantial collection of historic monuments, distinctive streetscapes, and notable old residences, alongside the nearby Yarkand Khanate royal tombs, the Xuanzang lecture platform, and the old-city memory museum. The site is located roughly a half-day's drive from Kashgar and is best visited as part of a regional itinerary. Allow a full day for Yarkand itself, including the mausoleum, the old town, and the surrounding historical sites.
