Núi Minh Sa

Mingsha Mountain, the range of singing sand dunes that rises along the southern edge of Dunhuang, is one of the great natural landmarks of the Chinese northwest and a defining feature of the region's desert landscape. The dunes are also the setting for some of Dunhuang's most popular desert activities. Camel trains wind along the ridges in long, photogenic lines, visitors climb and slide for the sheer pleasure of the slope, and photographers gather on the high points to catch the last light before the sky darkens over the desert.
