Yak Jerky
Famous SnacksWhat it is
Yak jerky is made from Tibetan yak beef, air-dried to concentrate flavour. It is high in protein and low in fat, with a chewy texture and a lingering sweetness.
Origin
The yak has been central to Tibetan pastoral life for millennia. Herders developed air-drying techniques to preserve meat in the high-altitude environment, and the craft has been passed down through generations.
How it's eaten
Eaten as a snack by tearing strips by hand, often paired with Tibetan butter tea. A popular purchase at shops in the Jiuzhaigou scenic area.
Signature
Sourced from free-range yaks grazed above 4,000 metres, the meat is deep red with bold muscle fibres, combining high-altitude flavour with abundant nutrition.
