Xikou-Tengtou Scenic Area is a celebrated 5A-rated destination that combines the historic town of Xikou with the wooded slopes of Mount Xuedou on the eastern fringe of Ningbo. Set along the banks of the Shan Stream and backed by waterfalls, temples, and forested peaks, it is one of the most rewarding day trips from the city. Travelers who enjoy Chinese modern history, mountain scenery, and Buddhist heritage will find plenty to fill a full day here.

Xikou itself is best known as the ancestral home of the Chiang family, and its old streets, ancestral hall, and well-preserved Republican-era buildings tell the story of one of modern China's most prominent families. The town's riverside setting, tiled-roof lanes, and memorials create an atmospheric backdrop for a slow walk. A short ride away, the Tengtou eco-village showcases a nationally recognized model of sustainable rural development, with demonstration farms, gardens, and community spaces that have drawn visiting delegations from around the world.

The other half of the scenic area is Mount Xuedou, one of the most celebrated Buddhist mountains in eastern China and home to the influential Xuedou Temple. A massive open-air Maitreya Buddha statue greets visitors at the temple entrance, while forest trails, waterfalls, and cliffside pavilions wind up the mountain. The combination of religious architecture and dramatic natural scenery makes the mountain a rewarding stop for both pilgrims and general travelers, and the viewpoints across the stream valleys are particularly memorable in autumn when the foliage turns.

Spring and autumn offer the most pleasant weather for exploring both the town and the mountain, while summer brings lush greenery along with warmer temperatures. Xikou-Tengtou lies well outside central Ningbo, so it works best as a dedicated day trip rather than a stop between city sights.
