Sizihwan (Siziwan) is a scenic coastal area on the western side of Kaohsiung, where the city meets the harbour entrance and the open water beyond. Bordered by the Port of Kaohsiung to the east, the Cijin Peninsula to the south, and Mount Wanshou (Shoushan) to the north, the bay is one of the most photographed stretches of the city's coastline and a favourite destination for both locals and tourists. Its accessibility from central Kaohsiung makes it one of the easiest natural escapes within the urban area.

The area is best known for three things. The first is its sandy beach, a rare piece of publicly accessible urban coastline in Taiwan, with a bathing area that draws crowds during the warmer months. The second is its sunsets: the angle of the bay, framed by the headland and the harbour entrance, produces some of the most celebrated evening light in southern Taiwan, and the seawall and viewing terraces fill with photographers and sightseers in the hour before dusk. The third is its natural reef geology, which gives the shoreline its character and provides tide pools and rock formations worth exploring at low water.

Beyond the beach itself, Sizihwan serves as a natural hub for several other attractions. The Former British Consulate at Takao sits on the hillside immediately above the bay, and the trails of Mount Wanshou climb inland, leading to elevated viewpoints over the harbour. The Cijin ferry, departing from a nearby pier, connects the area across the harbour entrance to Cijin Island. Walking the streets immediately behind the beach also reveals quiet cafes, small temples, and the historic structures of the port quarter.

For international visitors, Sizihwan is best visited in the late afternoon, with time allowed for a walk along the seawall, a visit to the consulate, and a stop for the sunset. The beach itself is relatively small and can be crowded on summer weekends, but the surrounding area has enough to fill a relaxed half-day. Allow three to four hours for the full circuit. The sunsets here are genuinely spectacular, and the location alone makes Sizihwan one of the essential stops on any Kaohsiung itinerary.
