О Ночной рынок Люхэ
Liuhe Night Market is one of Kaohsiung's most famous tourist attractions and a working example of the night-market culture that defines modern urban life across Taiwan. Stretching along Liuhe 2nd Road, a short walk from the Formosa Boulevard metro station, the market transforms a busy daytime traffic artery into a pedestrian food street after dark. The contrast between the two states of the same street is itself part of the experience, and the moment when the stalls roll out and the cars disappear is one of the daily rituals of central Kaohsiung.
The market's footprint is compact by Taiwanese standards, only a few hundred metres long, but the density of stalls is remarkable. Nearly two hundred vendors pack the street, offering the full range of Taiwanese street food: grilled seafood, noodles, dumplings, bubble tea, fruits, shaved ice, and regional specialties drawn from across the island. The market's reputation among international travellers comes in part from its accessibility: the central location, the concentration of famous dishes, and the relatively orderly layout make it one of the easiest Taiwanese night markets to navigate on a first visit.
Beyond the food, Liuhe also offers the broader night-market experience. Clothing, accessories, souvenirs, and small electronics are sold from stalls between the food vendors, and the surrounding streets house cinemas, cafes, and shops that stay open late. The atmosphere is friendlier and more consciously tourist-facing than some of the larger, more local markets elsewhere in the city, which has both advantages and drawbacks: prices are slightly higher and crowds denser, but the experience is more curated and easier to enjoy on a short visit.
For international visitors, Liuhe Night Market works particularly well as an evening activity combined with a visit to the nearby Formosa Boulevard station and its celebrated Dome of Light installation. The market is at its best between roughly six in the evening and midnight. Bring cash, expect crowds, and pace the eating: with so many stalls within a short walk, the temptation is to graze rather than commit to a single meal.
