Changle Street
Batch 3The Changle Street brand was founded in 1921, making the sweet rice wine of Changle town in Miluo, within greater Yueyang. Changle has been a trading town since the Northern and Southern dynasties; legend holds that in the Northern Song a filial son, Chen Yukun, accidentally scattered ferment-flower into glutinous rice and made sweet wine that healed his ailing mother, and that the Qianlong emperor tasted it on his southern tours and inscribed the name "Changle Sweet Wine" with his own brush, a craft carried down to this day.
In 2024 Changle Street joined Shisancun on the third batch of China Time-Honoured Brands, among the first Yueyang enterprises so recognised. The wine itself earned a national geographical-indication trademark in 2013 and a Ministry of Agriculture geographical-indication registration, making it one of Miluo's most representative local specialities.
Changle sweet wine ferments glutinous rice with starter into a low-alcohol sweet yellow wine, milky-white in colour with a clear, sweet aroma and mellow body. The old hand-made method long made the wine hard to store, and only in recent years have freeze-dried and canned forms let it travel afar.
Changle Street is a third-batch China Time-Honoured Brand recognised by the Ministry of Commerce.
