Founding

The brewing lineage of the Xitang brand reaches back to 1618 in the late Ming dynasty, handed down through generations in the water town of Xitang in Jiashan, and is now carried on by Zhejiang Xitang Old Wine Co., Ltd., formerly Zhejiang Jiashan Rice Wine Co., Ltd., with a history of over four centuries.

What made it famous

The Xitang brand of Jiashan rice wine is a second-batch China Time-Honoured Brand recognised by the Ministry of Commerce, a Zhejiang Famous Trademark and one of China's ten great yellow-wine labels; its products reach Japan, Singapore and the United States, standing alongside Shaoxing wine as a hallmark of Jiangnan brewing.

Signature craft

The wine is made from choice glutinous rice, wheat and the clear waters of the region, following traditional steps of rice-soaking, steaming, vat fermentation, pressing, heat-sterilising and jar-ageing; the result is an amber, mellow and gently sweet brew, with the huadiao, shanniang and Xitang 1618 lines the best known.

Cultural standing

The Xitang brand is a second-batch China Time-Honoured Brand recognised by the Ministry of Commerce.
