Caoxiangtai

Caoxiangtai opened in Wuchang in 1884. Starting from a street stall and run across three generations, it grew into one of Wuhan's foremost grocery-and-pastry houses.

Each Dragon Boat Festival, long queues for Caoxiangtai's mung-bean cakes form a familiar Wuchang street scene, a seasonal taste embedded in local memory.

It is known for handmade mung-bean cakes, crisp-sugar sweets and sesame cakes, keeping to old-style ingredients and methods.

In 2006 Caoxiangtai was recognized in the first batch of the China Time-Honored Brand registry.
