Ruifuxiang
Batch 1Est. 1862
Founding
Ruifuxiang was founded in 1862 by Meng Chuanshan of the Meng family of Jiujun, Zhangqiu in Jinan prefecture — the famed 'Zhangqiu Meng' merchant clan. It began as a cloth shop on Jinan's Yuanxi Street and was later expanded by kinsman Meng Luochuan.
What made it famous
Built on silk and cloth, Ruifuxiang opened branches in Beijing's Dashilan and elsewhere, becoming one of modern China's best-known names in the silk-and-textile trade.
Signature craft
Ruifuxiang made its name on quality goods honestly priced, specializing in fine silks and woollens and Chinese-style tailoring; its shopfronts and trade ethos epitomize old-merchant culture.
