Wuyutai

Batch 1
Est. 1887
Founding

Wuyutai was founded in 1887, in the late Qing, when the Wu family of Shexian in Anhui opened a tea warehouse in Beijing; the family has dealt in tea for generations, also making its name with jasmine tea.

What made it famous

Wuyutai and Zhangyiyuan are spoken of together as Beijing's two great jasmine-tea houses; its tea is known for a lively fragrance and a mellow body — bound up with the old-Beijing memory of a morning pot of scented tea.

Signature craft

Its tea-making keeps to a tradition of selecting, scenting and blending in-house, with care for leaf quality and the scenting craft; repeated rounds drive the floral aroma deep, yielding its signature "strong scent, sweet finish."

Cultural standing

A China Time-Honored Brand, Wuyutai's jasmine-tea technique is recognized as intangible cultural heritage and stands as an important representative of Beijing's tea culture.
