Yining's Liuxingjie (Six-Star Street) is one of the most distinctive historic districts in northwest China's Ili River Valley, laid out in the mid-1930s around a radial plan that has drawn comparisons to European garden-city concepts. Six main roads fan outward from a central hub, dividing the neighborhood into six wedge-shaped sectors, with schools and shops clustered at the core and residential courtyards ringing the perimeter. Locals sometimes nickname the area "Little Bagua City" for its striking geometry.

Street musicians and weekend handicraft markets give the area a relaxed, cosmopolitan atmosphere that sets it apart from newer commercial districts.

For independent travelers using Yining as a base to explore the wider Ili region, Liuxingjie offers an accessible introduction to the multicultural character of the river valley. The flat terrain is easy to explore on foot or by bicycle, and the radial layout makes orientation simple, since any main road eventually leads back to the central plaza.
