한 광릉왕 묘 박물관 소개
The Yangzhou Han Guangling King Tomb Museum, also known as the Hanling Garden, is a specialized archaeological museum on Shugang hill dedicated to two exceptional Western Han dynasty tombs unearthed in the Yangzhou area. Opened to the public in the early 1990s and rated as a national 4A tourist attraction, the museum presents these tombs within a setting of reconstructed Han-style architecture, giving visitors an unusually direct encounter with the funerary practices of the early Chinese empire.
The core of the collection is a pair of high-ranking wooden chamber tombs of the kind known in Chinese archaeology as "huangchang ticou", a prestigious imperial-grade burial format in which the inner chamber is built from stacked hardwood blocks laid in a distinctive overlapping pattern. This format was reserved for the very top stratum of Han society, and the Yangzhou tombs are among the most important surviving examples, belonging to Liu Xu, the first-generation King of Guangling, and to his queen. Their presence in Yangzhou reflects the city's status during the Western Han as the seat of a regional kingdom that administered the lower Yangtze, and the tombs are of considerable scholarly importance both within China and internationally.
The museum is organized to lead visitors through the tombs themselves along with the objects recovered from them. The main galleries include the underground chamber of the King of Guangling, the queen's burial apartments, a hall on the wider Han-era culture of the Yangzhou region, and spaces for special exhibitions. A secondary cultural garden and an educational hall round out the complex, giving the museum a slightly broader scope than a single-tomb site might otherwise offer.
A relaxed visit typically takes around an hour and a half, with most of that time spent inside the reconstructed tomb chambers themselves, where the scale of the wooden structure and the craftsmanship of the joinery are the main things to take in. Information is presented in both Chinese and English, though visitors with a deeper interest in Han-dynasty archaeology will get the most out of the exhibits.
Because the museum sits on Shugang hill close to Daming Temple and within the wider Slender West Lake scenic zone, it is easy to fold into a day's sightseeing in Yangzhou's northwest, often paired with Daming Temple in the morning or visited on the way back down toward the lake.
