다반청 고진 경구 소개
Dabancheng Ancient Town (Dabancheng Guzhen Jingqu) is a heritage and cultural site at the southern mouth of the pass between the northern and southern Tian Shan ranges, in the district of the same name southeast of Urumqi. The site occupies a location of long-standing strategic importance: it sits at the point where the Silk Road route from the Tarim Basin climbs through the mountains toward the Junggar Basin and the oases to the north, and it has served historically as a customs, military, and relay point on that route.
The modern scenic area is built around a partly restored Qing-era walled settlement, which preserves sections of the original rammed-earth defensive wall, gateways, and a number of internal buildings. Interpretive signage explains the history of the town as a frontier garrison and relay station, and exhibits inside the walls display equipment, costumes, weapons, and everyday objects related to garrison life and to the camel and horse caravans that once passed through the pass.
The surrounding landscape is the strongest single impression the site offers. The town sits at the bottom of the Dabancheng basin, with the snow-covered peaks of the Bogda range rising to the east and the open grassland of the pass extending to the south and west. The wind that funnels through the pass is among the strongest sustained wind resources in China, and the long rows of wind turbines that stretch across the basin are now part of the wider visual identity of the area.
The town's name is familiar to Chinese-speaking visitors through the popular folk song "The Girl from Dabancheng," and the cultural resonance of this song is reflected in the small performance hall and folk-life exhibits on the site. While these elements are staged rather than ruin-level authentic, they help place the town within the cultural memory of the wider region in a way that signage alone would not.
For international travelers, Dabancheng is best understood as a strategic and geographic landmark rather than a primary heritage destination. A visit typically takes about ninety minutes and is most rewarding when paired with the nearby salt lake and the wind farm on the pass, which together make a full-day excursion from Urumqi that combines history, landscape, and one of the strongest single geographic transitions in the region. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons; winter winds through the pass can be severe.
