쑤저우 고운하 유람선(산탕지에 바이쥐이 부두) 소개

The Suzhou Ancient Canal Cruise from the Bai Juyi Pier on Shantang Street is a short evening boat trip along the canal that runs northwest from the old city toward Tiger Hill. The pier is named for Bai Juyi, the Tang dynasty poet who served as governor of Suzhou and ordered the construction of the Shantang Canal in the ninth century; the cruise follows the same waterway that has been in continuous use for more than eleven hundred years. Boats typically run in the early evening, when the canal-side buildings and bridges are illuminated.

The Shantang Canal is one of the oldest and most scenic stretches of water in Suzhou. Less than a mile long between Chang Gate and Tiger Hill, the canal runs arrow-straight through the heart of the historic Shantang district, passing under a sequence of arched stone bridges and past white-walled merchant houses whose back doors open directly onto the water. The setting reproduces, in miniature, the canal-and-bridge vernacular of the larger Yangtze delta water towns. From the deck of a slow-moving boat, the view of these bridges and houses, many of them lit from below on summer evenings, is the visual archetype of the Chinese water city.

Cruises typically last around half an hour and travel from the Bai Juyi pier at the eastern end of Shantang Street to a point near Tiger Hill and back. Along the way, boats pass the restored commercial section of Shantang Street, the small Tonggui Bridge, the Half-Tang Bridge where the canal historically divided into a rural and an urban stretch, and several ancestral halls and former guild houses whose facades are floodlit after dark. A short on-board narration introduces the history of the canal, Bai Juyi's role in its construction, and the architectural significance of the buildings visible from the water.

For travelers who have already walked Shantang Street during the day, the evening cruise is a complementary experience rather than a substitute. The perspective from the water reveals how the canal originally functioned as the primary front door of every house along its banks, a relationship that is less obvious when walking the modern stone-paved street on land. As a brief, easily arranged evening activity that pairs naturally with dinner in the Shantang district, the cruise is one of the simplest ways to add an atmospheric canal experience to a Suzhou itinerary without committing the full day required for a water-town trip outside the city.
