The Sino-Soviet Golden Street Pedestrian Mall is one of the principal walking streets of central Manzhouli and a concentrated expression of the frontier-city character that defines this border town. Shops selling Russian chocolate, honey, vodka, matryoshka dolls, and other imported goods line the sidewalk, and many of the vendors and customers in the evening crowd are Russian travelers who have crossed the border for shopping, dining, or leisure. The mix of Chinese and Russian in the air, on the shop signage, and in the conversation around the food stalls gives the street an atmosphere that is rare anywhere else in China.

For visitors, the Sino-Soviet Golden Street is best experienced on foot and in the evening, when the lighting, the crowds, and the atmosphere of the border town are at their fullest. The street sits at the center of Manzhouli and pairs naturally with a wider walk through the historic architecture of the surrounding blocks.
