Pingtan Island, also known as Haitan Island, is the largest island in Fuzhou's coastal Pingtan area and the fifth-largest island in China. Often draped in drifting sea mist, it earned the poetic nickname "Donglan," meaning East Mist, and its blend of open-ocean horizons, sea-carved rock formations, and long sandy beaches has made it one of Fujian's most popular coastal destinations. The island's character is shaped by its geology.
