Changchun Film Studio, founded in October 1945, is widely recognized as the cradle of New China's film industry and one of the most historically significant cultural institutions in Changchun. Long before the city became known internationally as an automotive capital, it was this studio that put Changchun on the country's cultural map, producing the films, dubbed translations, and technical innovations that shaped the first decades of cinematic life in the People's Republic.

The studio's historical weight is measured in part by its seven firsts in New China film history, a set of landmark achievements in feature filmmaking, dubbing, and technical craft. Across its decades of operation, Changchun Film Studio produced hundreds of feature films and dubbed more than a thousand foreign titles into Chinese, introducing generations of viewers to both domestic stories and international cinema. The scale of that output made the studio not just a production company but a training ground and reference point for the entire Chinese film sector.

Stylistically, the studio became especially known for rural stories and war-themed films, and its work is often described as carrying the authentic flavor of the northeast's black-soil countryside, earthy, direct, and muscular in a way that distinguished it from the more polished urban studios of Beijing and Shanghai. Today the studio's legacy is preserved and interpreted through the adjacent Changying Old Site Museum, which occupies the original studio grounds and the preserved 1937 building that once housed the Manchukuo-era film association. Visitors can walk through exhibition halls, prop displays, and the old production workshops that document how films were made before the digital era. The studio brand also lives on in Changying Century City, the large film theme park elsewhere in Changchun, making the studio's influence visible across multiple sites in the city.
