Doupotang Waterfall sits about a kilometer upstream from the main Huangguoshu Waterfall and is recognized as the widest of the falls in the greater Huangguoshu waterfall group, with a crest spanning roughly 105 meters and a drop of around 21 meters. Despite standing in the shadow of its more famous downstream neighbor, Doupotang has its own devoted following among visitors who appreciate its very different personality depending on the season.

During drier periods, when the upstream Baishui River carries less sediment and runs clear, Doupotang falls gently and translucently over its wide ledge, earning it the affectionate local nickname "the bride's veil" for its soft, flowing appearance. During the rainy season, the same waterfall becomes something else entirely: swollen with sediment-laden floodwater, it roars down with the force of a stampede, losing its delicate character for raw power.

One of Doupotang's more unusual features is a cavity on the left side of the falls that, when large volumes of floodwater pass through it, produces a deep, resonant sound, giving the waterfall its other local nickname, the "roaring waterfall." This acoustic quirk makes a rainy-season visit a genuinely different sensory experience from a dry-season one, and travelers curious about the contrast may want to time visits accordingly if their schedule allows.

As part of the wider Huangguoshu scenic cluster, Doupotang is an easy add-on for anyone visiting the main waterfall, offering a quieter, less crowded vantage point on the same river system. It's a good stop for visitors to Anshun who want to see more than just the headline waterfall and appreciate how dramatically the same landscape can change with the seasons.
