관링 화석군 국가지질공원 소개
Guanling Fossil National Geopark lies in Guanling Buyi and Miao Autonomous County in southwestern Guizhou, within the wider Anshun region, protecting a landscape known for its exceptional fossil record from an ancient marine environment. The geopark's planned area covers roughly 26 square kilometers, set within a broader protected zone of around 200 square kilometers, with a smaller core protection area at its center.
The site sits within a network of well-known Anshun attractions, located roughly 188 kilometers from Guiyang, about 52 kilometers from Huangguoshu Waterfall, and around 90 kilometers from the caves at Dragon Palace, making it a feasible if somewhat longer excursion for visitors based in Anshun. The provincial-level Huajiang Grand Canyon scenic area also falls within the geopark's broader protected zone, tying the fossil site into the same dramatic karst landscape found elsewhere in the region.
Guanling is internationally recognized among paleontologists for fossils preserved from an ancient marine setting that once covered this part of southwestern China, including remains of marine reptiles and fish that lived roughly 200 million years ago. The geopark presents this fossil heritage through preserved excavation sites and exhibition areas, giving visitors a window into a prehistoric seascape that once existed where limestone mountains now stand.
For travelers with a specific interest in paleontology or geology, Guanling Fossil National Geopark offers a rare opportunity in China to see well-preserved marine fossils in situ, and it makes an interesting, less crowded complement to Anshun's more famous waterfall and cave attractions for those willing to venture a bit further from the city center.
